About Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital

Kathmandu Medical College established in 1997. Kathmandu Medical College Pvt. Ltd., comprising of leading doctors, businessmen and charity organizations took over the management of KMC on 1st May 2000. The intention is to provide service which is easily accessible, reasonably cheap and of the highest standards. The fact that an increased number of sick and needy are seeking medical aid at KMC Teaching Hospital is proof of this. The college is located in the capital Kathmandu.
KMC is permanently affiliated to Kathmandu University and fully recognized by the Nepal Medical Council and the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The working experience at KMCTH is recognized to enable doctors to sit in the postgraduate entrance examinations held by other universities. Many students, after MBBS qualification sits for USMLE, PLAB or the licensing examination of the Medical Council of India. Kathmandu Medical College has also been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools – electronic format as from June 2002. Following full recognition by NMC, KMC is also listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). KMC is an Associate Member of the Network Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) that has its headquarters at Glent in Belgium.

Vision/Mission

The primary objective of KMC is to provide quality medical education within a modern academic environment to produce qualified medical professionals who can contribute to society by means of their knowledge, attitude, skills and professionalism. A student-centred curriculum that is a community, as well as problem and need-based, is followed. KMC is quickly developing into a centre for excellence, setting new standards in medical education and high-quality medical care.

Admission
Eligibility & Process

Candidates who have completed 17 years of age at the time of their applications and who fulfil the following criteria are eligible to apply for the MBBS programme at KMC.
Completed 1College years of education or Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) or equivalent, with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as main subjects and having secured not less than 50% marks in the subjects mentioned above put together and an overall aggregate of 50%.
or
Completed the Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc) recognised by the University, with one of the following subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and at least one other prescribed science subject of study up to the ancillary level and having scored not less than an overall aggregate of 50% marks, provided that such candidates shall have passed the earlier qualifying examination (1College or an equivalent examination) with the subjects of English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

How To Apply

Applications from eligible students for the MBBS programme should be made during the months of April to August each year. Resident Nepali students are required to have passed KUMET examination and should submit the application form and relevant documents to Kathmandu Medical College. Non-Resident Nepali students and foreign students may forward their application together with attested copies of their testimonials addressed to the principal of Kathmandu Medical College. All the students may contact Kathmandu Medical College for application forms, prospectus or further details. Equal opportunity to applicants regardless of their gender or national origin.

Selection Methods

Students sponsored by the Ministry of Education will be enrolled in 10% of total available seats
Nepali students should have taken the Kathmandu University Medical Entrance Test (KUMET). The entrance tests are held at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel and the interview for final selection will be conducted at Kathmandu Medical College. Admission will be made on the basis of performance in the entrance test followed by an interview. The result will be published one week before the starting date
Foreign students will be selected on the basis of eligibility criteria and interviews.
