A battle which none have expected

Everyone are well aware of the incident which took last Thursday where a bus belonging to Kathmandu-based Golden Gate College ‘was set on fire’.

The further incidents that are linked to this accident came to notice lately. The main reason being the action of the principle of Golden Gate International College (GGIC) who made their students bow down and touch his legs with their head and beg for their mistake of joining the student’s Union. Then it is believed that Student’s Union (main) has burnt down the college bus of GGIC as a revenge for his action.

And lately, all the private colleges’ wings have joined the cause to shut down all the education institutions all around Nepal to condemn that incident. So, banda have been in place for today for all private colleges of Nepal and all the examination scheduled to be today have been postponed until further notices. Also, Students’ Union are believed to place a bandha program on 23rd Falgun.

The war is on. But this is not what everyone have expected; neither from College Wings or the Students Union. Hope this will come to an logical end soon. And students and teachers will go to college or education intuition to teach and learn instead of to do bandas and protests.

Eligibility

Anyone having a bachelor degree or equivalent with 15 years of formal education (12 years of schooling and three years of graduation) in any discipline with minimum second division in undergraduate level can apply for admission to MBA.

The admission process in the MBA involves:

Submission of complete application form (can be downloaded from www.pu.edu.np, transcripts of all previous degrees (Bachelor, Certificate and SLC) and along with payment of admission test fee within the specified date.
Applicants are tested for their aptitude to study management through a written admission test. The test is designed to assess the applicants’ ability in verbal and quantitative reasoning, data interpretation and proficiency in English language.
After the test the applicants are required to participate in group discussion and undertake a personal interview.

Kathmandu University classes to resume from today

The teachers of the Kathmandu University have decided to resume classes from Wednesday after an agreement with the university administration. “We have decided to resume classes from tomorrow as the administration vowed to provide address out demands during a meeting today,” informed Professor Bibhuti Ranjan Jha, president of Kathmandu University Professors´ Association (KUPA).

Jha added the university administration has agreed in principle to address their demands. He added that they will halt the classes again if the administration does not address their demands. The university administration had called the agitating teachers of KUPA for a meeting on Tuesday. The university had formed a three-member dialogue committee to hold talks with the agitating teachers.

KUPA has demanded hike in the existing salaries of teachers and remuneration to temporary teachers on par with permanent teachers. Withdrawal of the decision to appoint Mohan Bikram Gyawali as the dean of the Department of Natural Science (chemistry) is also among the major demands of the agitating teachers. Over 2,000 students of KU were affected on Tuesday as teachers halted classes on Tuesday. Although the teachers had planned to halt classes from Monday, they had decided to give the university another 24 hours to consider their demands.

Until recently, the agitating teachers had been conducting classes by wearing black armbands, but they resorted to sit-in after the university administration tried to “suppress” their protest.

Investigation initiated against the principal of Doti Technical Institute.

The principal of Seti Technical Institute, Birendra Babu Yadav, has been charged with collecting money from a chicken supplier that the Institute purchased.

An audio clip of the conversation was leaked, bringing the issue to the public’s attention.

The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) has launched an investigation into Yadav’s involvement, according to Tirtha Raj Awasthi, a teacher at Doti Technical Institute.

Kathmandu Valley CDOs To Meet Today To Review Smart Lockdown

On Friday, a joint meeting of the Chief District Officers CDOs of all three districts in the Kathmandu Valley will be held to discuss the current smart lockdown.

According to Govinda Prasad Rijal, CDO of Kathmandu district, a combined meeting of the three district administration offices in the Kathmandu Valley is being convened to evaluate the order issued in the Kathmandu Valley for the prevention and control of the new variant of Coronavirus Omicron infection.

The meeting would take place in the afternoon, he stated.

He stated that a meeting of the three CDOs would be conducted on January 22 to evaluate the instructions that had been issued.

During a digital award ceremony on January 25, 2022, the British Council Nepal presented International School Awards to 53 schools for the 2020-21 academic year and 54 schools for the 2019-20 academic year.

The council decided to combine the two-year award presentation into a single ceremony due to the pandemic. Choodamani Paudel, Director General of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development, was the principal guest at the occasion (CEHRD).

The International School Award (ISA) is a global accrediting program that recognizes best practices in integrating an international component into schools.

Accreditation is granted for three years to successful schools.

CTEVT Postpones Examinations

All semester and annual examinations have been postponed until further notice by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), Examination Control Office, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

From the 27th of Magh 2078, CTEVT intended to conduct regular and additional tests under several programs such as engineering, health, and agriculture on an annual and semester basis.

Relief Amount Provided To Families Of COVID-19 Victims

The District Administration Office in Jajarkot has distributed Rs 100,000 funds to families who have lost members due to the coronavirus.

The sum of Rs 100,000 obtained from the Karnali Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law was delivered to the COVID victim families, according to Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Devkota.

He stated that the affected households received a total of Rs 1.7 million.

The sum, according to CDO Devkota, will help families who have been thrown into a state of mourning as a result of the loss of a family member.

According to the Relief Distribution Procedure, 2078 BS, the relief money was given to poor families.

1.66m Doses Of Moderna Vaccines Arrive

Nepal got 1.66 million doses of Moderna vaccinations on Monday, out of a total of four million doses funded by the World Bank.

The remaining doses will be delivered soon. Adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 will be given Moderna vaccinations to protect them from the health effects of COVID-19.

The vaccines purchased through the COVAX cost-share option meet the World Bank’s Vaccine Approval Criteria for financing and have been certified by the European Medicines Agency and the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency as safe and effective for children as young as 12 years old.

“Nepal was the second country in the world to complete vaccine purchase through the COVAX cost-share plan.”

“As we expand our vaccine coverage to teenagers 12-17 years of age, the supply of Moderna vaccines is opportune for Nepal,” said Birodh Khatiwada, Minister of Health and Population.

Minister Khatiwada stated, “The government is dedicated to vaccinating the whole eligible population by mid-April 2022, and the World Bank-funded Moderna vaccines will be important in helping Nepal accomplish its COVID-19 immunization goal.”

The Moderna vaccines will be administered to adolescent populations through immunisation sites set up in schools, as well as sites to reach out-of-school adolescent populations, in accordance with the recommendations of the National Immunisation Advisory Committee and the National Immunisation Committee.

On January 12, 2022, the World Bank approved a second round of additional funding in the amount of $18 million, bringing the total amount of COVID-19 health response funding to $122 million to help Nepal scale up its vaccination efforts to reach additional eligible populations.

“I am delighted that the World Bank has been able to assist in the distribution of safe and effective vaccines to Nepal’s adolescent and youth populations.”

“This is crucial since the pandemic has already cost Nepal’s children about two years of in-person schooling,” said Faris Hadad-Zervos, World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

“I’m optimistic that these vaccines will improve the health and safety of students in the classrooms, as well as enable continuous learning to compensate for the learning missed due to COVID-19.”
