The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has begun to update information about public and community libraries across the country.
This project was initiated by the Ministry in conjunction with READ Nepal and New Era. The information gathered is expected to aid in the capacity building, strengthening, and proper management of such libraries around the country.
It will also aid the three levels of government in developing the necessary policy and developing related library development programs.
The Ministry’s Library Coordination Section has asked public and community libraries to complete an online questionnaire and submit it by December 30. It has also invited local governments to extend their assistance by conducting local monitoring of this effort.
In the United States, there are approximately 1,000 community libraries.
In Nepal’s context, it is argued that encouraging a reading culture and expanding the number of library users through the use of technology is difficult.
