The Embassy of India, Kathmandu has announced the launch of a new Law Scholarship Scheme for eligible Nepali citizens pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate legal education in India. The scholarship provides financial assistance on a reimbursement basis for students admitted into B.A.LLB, LLB, or LLM programs across the top 20 law institutions in India ranked under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Under the scheme, selected candidates can receive financial reimbursement of up to NPR 6.4 lakhs (Rs. 6.4 lakhs) per student per academic year covering mandatory educational expenses.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Nationality: The applicant must be a bona fide citizen of Nepal.

  3. Academic Stage: The applicant must be enrolled in the first year (first semester) of the B.A.LLB, LLB, or LLM degree.
  4. Merit Selection: Selection for the scholarship award will be determined strictly based on academic marks secured in the qualifying examination.

Required documents for application submission

Applicants must submit the completed application form to the Education Wing, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, accompanied by the following credentials (originals for verification and copies for record):

  1. Duly notarized copies of Nepali citizenship certificates (along with official English translations) and passport copies of the applicant and parents.
  2. Final academic mark sheets of the qualifying examination: Class XII for B.A.LLB candidates, Graduation degree for LLB applicants, and LLB degree for LLM scholars.
  3. Official admission offer letter or enrollment certificate issued by the concerned Indian institute or university.
  4. Formal self-certification confirming that the candidate is not receiving any other concurrent scholarship from the Government of India or the Government of Nepal for the same course.

Criteria for scholarship renewal in subsequent years

Continuation of financial assistance beyond the first installment requires the annual submission of:

  1. An official certificate from the head of the institution verifying that the student has successfully passed the academic year and gained promotion.
  2. Academic transcripts showing the candidate has secured at least 60% marks (or equivalent grade point average) in the final examination.
  3. Original fee payment receipts for admission into the subsequent academic year.
