The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Monday registered a case at the Special Court against Bijendra Kumar Rai, former chief of the Higher Secondary Education Board’s western regional office in Pokhara.

The anti-graft body has accused Rai of abusing power while awarding scholarships in the fiscal year 2011-12. According to the CIAA, Rai has been found guilty of manipulating the marks of candidates vying for the scholarships.

He has been charged under the Corruption Prevention Act, 2002. “He has been found to have violated the HSEB’s Scholarship Directives, 2010,” read a statement issued by the CIAA. In addition, the CIAA has also found that Rai had assigned peons and security guards of his office to check the answer papers.
