In order to curb irregularities in the selection of exam centers, the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has directed its district level bodies to form coordination committees that would recommend exam centers to District Education Offices.
In the past, the DEO were the sole authority to appoint exam centers, superintendents, observers and the workforce.
The grade 12 and 11 examinations are set to start from April 30 and May 13, respectively. More than 600,000 students are expected to appear in the exams.
The government took the decision a month before the plus two exams as per the decision of the HSEB evaluation meeting held on February 20 and 21, said Member Secretary Bhim Lal Gurung.
He added that the evaluation meeting had decided that the district-based exam coordination committees would include Chief District Officer, the police chief of the district and district education officer.
“In view of the media reports that raised questions about the credibility of HSEB exams for the last couple of years, we have decided that the DEO will implement the committee´s recommendations as per the capacity of schools and colleges,” said Gurung, adding, “The complaints of irregularities were rife, particularly, in urban areas where government officials have been accused of accepting bribes from colleges to have a convenient environment at exam centers for their students to cheat.”
The exams would be conducted a around 1000 exam centers across the country. Around 40.38 percent of the total examinees had passed grade 11 examinations last year, whereas the corresponding figure for grade 12 was 38.58 percent.
