KMC Consulting Stakeholders To Resume Physical Classes From September 17

After the Kathmandu District Administration (KMC) indicated local governments can issue permission to begin lessons in physical presence from September 17, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City began conversations with stakeholders in the hopes of physically resuming classes in schools.

On Monday last week, a combined meeting of the Kathmandu District Administration Office and the district’s local governments resolved to restart courses in the presence of the students.

Gokarneshwor and Budhanilkanta municipalities have already resumed classes in person as a result of the meeting’s resolution, but KMC is yet to make a decision because it is currently engaging with the relevant parties.

The KMC’s Education Department chief, Ram Prasad Subedi, said they were now gathering opinions from all parties, including private schools, public schools, teachers, parents, and health experts, about resuming classes on September 17.

It has summoned a meeting for Tuesday, based on consultations, to determine the time, module, and method of resuming classes in person, he added.

According to Subedi, several possibilities such as all schools not resuming at the same time, schools resuming at different times, conducting classes just for a restricted number of pupils, or deciding to begin classes only after the Dashain and Tihar vacations can be pursued.

Subedi stated that the final judgment would be made in two days.
