NAMS Affiliiated Resident Doctors About To Halt Services

More than thousands of patients are going to face problems in the public hospitals of the capital city. They might face some inconvenience during their treatment because their treatment services could be halted. From Tuesday, the resident doctors perusing higher degrees at hospitals affiliated to the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) have decided to avoid services.

The current decisions regarding shunning the services in the public hospitals of the capital by the resident hospitals also supports the ongoing protest organized by their fellow students at Bir Hospital. About 300 resident teachers are studying MD/MS degrees under NAMS. Dr Mangal Rawal, chairman of the Resident Doctors´ Association of Nepal (RAN), told that they had asked their follow students to join the ongoing protest. Further, he said,”The protesting doctors will not resume the services unless the concerned authorities addresses our demands,”

He informed that the resident doctors serving at major hospitals such as Patan, Maternity, Kanti Children´s, Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center, Nepal Mental Hospital, Tilganga Eye Hospital, the Army Hospital and Bharatpur Cancer Hospital in Chitwan have also decided to join the protest from Tuesday.

Due to the services being halted by the resident doctors, the Bir Hospital have faced a lot of problems for the past 9 days. They have demanded sweeping reforms at Bir. The hospital administration has said that most of the demands are related with the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

Dr Kedar Prasad Century, director at Bir Hospital, told that they have asked the ministry to respond to the demands of the protesting doctors.He informed that ministry is ready to supply a new CT- scan machine and has urged the prime minister to appoint a vice chancellor (VC) at NAMS as soon as possible.
