The Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee (WCSCSWC) of the Legislature-Parliament have directed the Ministry of Education (MoE) to bring the Education Act (eighth amendment) in the parliament soon.
The Education Sub-committee under the committee directed it to the Education Ministry after holding discussions with the secretary Bishwa Prakash Pnadit and the heads of departments of the Ministry today, to address the current problem seen in the education sector.
President of the committee Ranju Kumari Jha said that the committee directed the Ministry to table the bill within 15 days to end the current problem of politicization, commercialization and influence of Mafiosi in the education sector. President Jha further said that the bill is expected to end teacher´s involvement in politics and not to let them teach in private schools.
Similarly, lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota said that the investment in education sector should be transparent and that investment should be nationalized to stop it from turning black money into white money.
Lawmaker Badri Prasad Pandey reiterated for free and compulsory basic education and lawmaker Shree Maya Thakali pointed out the need of doing research why the SLC result is declining in recent years.
Similarly, lawmakers Mukta Kumari Yadav, Tejulal Chaudhari and Laxman Rajbanshi said that the current education policy is not appropriate to meet the national need.
Likewise, secretary of the Ministry of Education Bishwa Prakash Pandit assured that the bill will be presented within 15 days if the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Law give approval to this regard.(RSS)

Director General of Department of Education Labadev Awasthi, Non- Formal Education Centre Director Baburam Poudel, Curriculum Development Center’s Director Diwakar Dhungel, Member-Secretary of Council for Techinical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) Ramhari Lamichhane, officiating Member-Secretary of Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) Narayan Koirala, School Teacher Record Keeping Office Director General Ganesh Rai and CTEVT Event Director Dr Laxmiran Poudel apprised the meeting of activities of respective bodies.
Subcommittee coordinator Dr Ganesh Man Gurung informed that his team is preparing an integrated report on problems in Nepali education sector.
The subcommittee has invited representative of teachers’ organisations to its next meeting scheduled for September 23.
