From today, the government will begin inoculating people between the ages of 12 and 17 with Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Until Saturday, only those with chronic conditions were immunized by Pfizer. The administration has opted to vaccinate healthy children aged 12 to 17 because more Pfizer vaccine is available.
The immunizations will be offered at authorized vaccine centers in the districts of Lalitpur and Kathmandu. Due to a shortage of vaccine doses, vaccines will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, according to Sagar Dahal of the Department of Health Services’ Child Health and Immunisation Section.
He stated that the remaining vaccine doses will be given to about 2,800 children. The vaccine is being given out at 24 different hospitals around the country.
As of Saturday, 9,120,014 people had received their first treatment against COVID-19, and 7,906,369 had received their entire dose, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. In the last 24 hours, 40,014 people were vaccinated.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported 238 new COVID-19 cases. PCR tests revealed 232 of them, while antigen tests revealed six. COVID-19 tally by PCR method reached 819,019, while COVID-19 tally by antigen tests reached 95,314.
According to the MoHP, 7,845 of the 9,123 tests completed in the last 24 hours were Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), while 1,278 were antigen testing.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Kathmandu Valley saw 130 new infections during that time. In Kathmandu, 98 cases have been confirmed, eight in Bhaktapur, and 24 in Lalitpur.
In the last 24 hours, there have been 33 new illnesses in Province 1, 12 in Province 2, 142 in Bagmati, 21 in Gandaki, 19 in Lumbini, two in Karnali, and two in Sudurpaschim.
Lalitpur district has more than 500 active cases, while 10 other districts each have more than 200 current cases, according to MoHP data.
Meanwhile, the districts of Okhaldhunga, Manang, Dolpa, Jajarkot, and Humla had no active cases as of today. On Sunday, there were 7,164 active cases. 468 people have been admitted to various health facilities, while the remaining 6,696 have been placed in home isolation.
According to the most recent update, 227 COVID-19 patients have been admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) across the country, with 51 receiving ventilator support.
During that time, 370 COVID-19 patients recovered from the virus. There have already been 800,359 cases of recovery in Nepal.
In the last 24 hours, one fatality has been reported in the country as a result of the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 11,496. As of today, COVID-19 has a recovery rate of 97.7% and a mortality rate of 1.4 percent.
