Preparations Begin For Chhath Festival In Mithila

In Mithila, preparations for the Chhath festival have begun. With the conclusion of the Deepawali celebration, the residents of Tarai-Madhesh are busy purchasing things and preparing for this traditional festival.

As a result, the Tarai-Madhes’ principal market places and bazaars, notably Janakpurdham, are bustling with shoppers. People can be seen purchasing items essential for the Chhath festival’s rituals, as well as fruits.

The Chhath celebration officially begins on the fourth day after the Tihar holiday’s Laxmi Puja. The goddess Chhathi Mata and the sun deity are both worshipped at the Chhath festival.

For the Chhath puja ceremonies, fruits such as apple, banana, orange, coconut, sugarcane, green peas, radish, and ginger plants, as well as ‘Pani Singada,’ are very important. Purchases of clay and bamboo-made items are also made.

People are also clearing and cleaning ponds and riverbanks in preparation for the Chhath ceremonies to be performed. The Chhath songs have begun to be broadcast on local FM radio stations.

In Janakpur, holy ponds such as Ganga Sagar, Dhanush Sagar, Agni Kunda, Angarajsar, Dashrath Talau, and others are being adorned for the festival.

During the event, offerings are presented to the sun god and Chhathi Mata. Special cookies are baked to be offered to the gods. This event is observed to hope for the family’s and community’s good health, happiness, and prosperity.
