Starting on Wednesday, Tihar, the festival of lights and flowers, among other things, will begin. It is also known as Yamapanchak and is observed from the Trayodashi of Kartik to the Dwitiya of Kartik Sukla Paksha, or November 3 to November 6.
During the Yamapanchak, goddess Laxmi and brothers (Bhai) are worshipped in addition to a bird and a few animals. On the first, second, and third days, crows, dogs, and cows are worshipped. The event is usually held for five days, but this year it will only be held for four days.
Crows and dogs will be worshipped on the same day on Wednesday, cow and Mha puja will be celebrated on the same day on Friday, and cow and Bhai Tika will be celebrated on the same day on Saturday this year.
November 3 is Kaag Tihar and Kukur Tihar. On November 4, Gai Puja, Govardan Puja, Hali Puja, and Mha Puja will be held; on November 5, Bhai Tika and Kija Puja will be held; and on November 6, Bhai Tika and Kija Puja will be held.
A crow is worshipped as a divine messenger on the first day of Yamapanchak. Then, on the second, a dog is honored by presenting nice food and having garlands placed around it. Many people maintain dogs as caretakers at their homes.
The goddess Laxmi is worshipped on Laxmi puja day, which is regarded very essential for every Hindu household. In the idea that the goddess enters the homes at night, people light oil-fueled lights and stay watch all night.
In groups, girls and boys visit households to play Bhaili, sing songs, and perform musical instruments.
People reward them with money, known as selroti. The Newar community has a custom of celebrating Mha puja. It’s a one-of-a-kind rite in which the participants adore themselves.
Bhai Tika is Yamapanchak’s last day. The day reunites brothers and sisters.
Sisters place seven-colored Tika on their brothers’ foreheads, Makhamali garlands around their necks, and present them fruits, candies, and nuts on this day. Sisters hope for their brothers’ lives to be long and prosperous. Brothers also give their sisters presents such as money and clothes, among other things.
