This year, the number of tourists visiting the Timbung Lake area, a tourist attraction in Taplejung district’s Sidingwa Rural Municipality, has increased.
The lake, which borders the districts of Taplejung and Panchthar as well as India’s state of Sikkim, is a popular tourist attraction in the district. The growth has been ascribed to public awareness initiatives as well as infrastructure building and upgrades, including pathways.
According to Rai, who is also the Sidingwa Rural Municipality’s spokeswoman, the number of tourists has been steadily increasing in recent years.
The footpath to the lake has recently been renovated as part of the province’s and federal governments’ tourism development schemes, as well as at the municipal level.
The construction of tourist bungalows, according to Jeevan Kumar Tamling, vice-chairman of the rural municipality, has made it easier for tourists to visit the area, resulting in a rise in their number. Tourists have been drawn to the area as a result of beautification and other projects, according to Tamling.
Tourists have been making good use of the Yak herds as lodging before the establishment of tourist cottages.
The journey from Kalikhola to the upper hamlet of Sadewa and back takes three to four days due to the rough terrain, according to municipality head Nar Bahadur Kadariya.
According to Rai, the majority of the tourists come from areas in Eastern Nepal. He said that tourists from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and other western Nepalese cities have visited the lake this year, as well as a large number of tourists from Sikkim and Darjeeling.
Every year during Naag Panchami, Hindu devotees flock to the lake. Domestic and international tourists are claimed to come to the area to see the beautiful scenery, herbs, Yak and Sheep husbandry, and Red Panda.
