Tourists Jam Annapurna Foot Trail

The Annapurna foot trek has been attracting large crowds of travelers on a regular basis for quite some time.

Hundreds of foreign and domestic tourists have been walking along the trail to visit several scenic locations across Manang district, according to locals.

Internal tourists make up the majority of visitors, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

“While roughly 50 foreign visitors visit the foot track every day, domestic tourists number 100-150,” said ACAP Manang chief Lekhnath Gautam. The authorities keep an official record of international travelers. The foot track brought 990 foreign tourists to the area between October 12 and November 16.

The trail is used by some travelers to reach Tilicho Lake, the world’s highest lake at 4,919 meters, and Gangapur Lake (3,540 metres). “Most people visit Thorang La Pass, a mountain pass at a height of 5,416 meters,” Gautam explained.

The months of September through November are the busiest for visitors to Manang.

From December onwards, the number of tourists drops, then begins to rise again after three months. The foot track begins in Lamjung in Besisahar and continues to Manang, Mustang, and Myagdi before ending in Pokhara.

Previously, travellers were expected to complete the trek in 21 days.

However, now that highways have been built in various parts of Manang and Mustang, the journey time has been reduced to 7-10 days.

The foot track has managed to find its way onto the bucket lists of numerous people, with the vast majority of them reporting tremendous satisfaction following their visit.
