On Wednesday, the Vivah Panchami celebration is being observed across the country, with respect and homage paid to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The Janaki temple at Janakpurdham, Dhanusha, celebrates the day brilliantly.
According to the Hindu calendar, the religious and cultural event is held on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha.
In the Treta Yuga, Lord Ram and Goddess Sita were married on this day, according to legend. Thousands of devotees have gathered in Janakpur to celebrate the religious wedding of Ram and Sita, which will take place today at the Rangabhoomi field in Janakpurdham.
All 560 million deities are expected to be present to observe the marriage ceremony.
Various rites, such as the matkot, tilakotsav, swoyambara, and Bivaha Panchami, are observed as part of the festival throughout the course of a week.
The figure of Lord Ram is carried in an adorned colorful palanquin, escorted by a procession and a musical band, as per Hindu tradition. The Rangabhoomi is also visited by a painted palanquin with a statue of Sita, who performs all the ceremonies.
Thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India flock to Janakpur to see the big festival. The provincial government has declared Wednesday a public holiday throughout the province.
