Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD)
At the outset of the twenty-first century, the world has become more interdependent than ever before. In this rapidly changing world, it is not enough to simply know the phenomenon going on in one’s town, state or country. Instead, we need to understand the complex relationships and interactions between states, non-state organizations and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) such as UN, EU and SAARC. We live in a world in which international affairs and foreign cultures affect our daily live.
Nepal is in unique geopolitical setting in between two emerging powers of the world – China and India. Effective foreign policies strengthen the dignity of Nepal in the international arena by maintaining the sovereignty, integrity and independence of the country. Appropriate foreign policies play a key role to the rapid development of the country in this kind of geopolitical setting.
Foreign policy and diplomacy are quite indispensable to protect every independent nation’s national interests. So, the foreign policies of a country should be visionary and solid. In order to formulate such policies, an in-depth research and studies are required and an academic centre can contribute significantly in this regard. Realizing the inadequacy in understanding the varieties and complexities of contemporary international relations and diplomacy, Tribhuvan University has established Masters` Program in International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD).
The program has designed the Masters of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy that draws on key insights and strengths from several disciplines in social sciences, humanities, and philosophy to provide a comprehensive understanding of international affairs.
