Wave Front

The wave front at any instant of time is defined as the locus of vibrating particles in medium travelling in some phase at that instant and the perpendicular line drawn to wave front are called by according to the nature of source of light, wave front are divided into following types.

1. Spherical wave front:
If the source of light is point source, then the locus formed at any instant is spherical wave front.
We know,

2. Cylindrical wave front:
If the source of light is in linear shape, then the locus formed at any instant is cylindrical wave front.

3. Plane wave front:
If the source of light is in infinite distance, then the any of the wave front appears plane wave front.
