While pulling a lawn roller, the vertical component of the force applied acts in upward direction which decreases the apparent weight of the lawn roller. i.e.
Wapparent = mg-Fv
While pushing the lawn roller, the vertical component of the force applied acts in downward direction eventually increasing the apparent weight of the lawn roller. i.e.
Wapparent = mg+Fv
Hence, it is easier to pull a lawn roller than to push.
