  1. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is reduced to zinc by using reducing agents. Coke (C) is used as a reducing agent for this process.

ZnO + C → Zn + CO
Zinc oxide + Coke → Zinc + Carbonmonoxide

  1. ZnO is heated with crushed coke at 1673 K, where it is reduced to CO.

ZnO + C → Zn + CO
heated at 1676K
